The Ghana Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (GIALS), is a non-profit organisation that was foundered by the late Professor Stephen Offei, with the aim of enhancing training and capacity building in all aspects of the law in Ghana. Part of its mission is to work with universities, the legal profession, industry, civil society organisations, and the community, to develop programmes of research, consultancy and teaching with focus on social, economic and sustainable development. The headquartered is at No.1 Freetown Link, Okponglo Junction, in Accra, Ghana.
GIALS has also been working closely with the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) in London. The organisation was inaugurated on June 18, 2015, at a very colourful ceremony that was chaired by Retired Supreme Court Judge, Professor Justice S.K. Date Bah, and attended by many members of the legal community, nationally and internationally. On the preceding evening, Mr Jules Winterton, the then Director of the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (IALS) in London, delivered a public Lecture on the theme, “Legal Education at the Crossroads”, at the British Council in Accra, to celebrate the inauguration of GIALS.
GIALS continues to offer a variety of courses, seminars (face-to-face and online) and webinars, on an on-going basis, throughout the year, at different locations in Ghana.
