Admissions
GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS (UNDERGRADUATE)
a. WASSCE / SSSCE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL PROGRAMMES

Credit passes (A1-C6 / A-D) in English, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies (input all the four core subjects when applying) in addition to three elective subjects applicable to the programme of choice.

(Applicants should note that they are expected to have at least C6/D in Social Studies, even though it is NOT included in the calculation of aggregates.

b. A-LEVEL APPLICANTS

Candidates must have the General Certificate of Education at Ordinary Level in five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, in addition to Chemistry, Physics and Biology at the Advance Level G.C.E.

c. OTHER EDUCATIONAL CREDENTIALS

i) IGCSE/IB – Applicants must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL/‘O’ Level), in addition to three Higher Level (HL-A to C)/‘A’ Level (A to d)/IB2 (A-C) grades in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Mathematics.

ii) American High School Grade – Grades 12 & 13 examinations.

d. INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS

International Applicants and Ghanaians with foreign Educational Credentials which are equivalent to those listed in ‘a’ to ‘c’ above may apply to all Programmes.

NB: Foreign Certificates must receive authentication and equivalences from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC). Foreign students must have their high school certificates and diplomas translated into English if they are not written in English.

SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES (SAHS) – HO CAMPUS
  • Doctor of Medical Laboratory Science (6 years or 2 year Top-Up)
  • Bachelor of Dietetics
  • Bachelor of Diagnostic Imaging (Radiography)

Entry Requirements:

i. All Core Subjects listed in ‘a’ above in addition to any 3 of the following electives: Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

ii. Applicants with Food and Nutrition, Management in Living and General Knowledge in Arts can apply to Bachelor of Dietetics.

iii. Non-Science students who wish to apply for Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences must possess a grade of at least  B2/B in Integrated Science.

iv. Doctor of Medical Laboratory Sciences (Top-Up): Holders of a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or B.Sc. in Medical Laboratory Science degree with an FCGPA of 2.5 and above may be admitted to Level 500.

NB: All shortlisted applicants may be required to pass a selection interview.

SCHOOL OF BASIC AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES (SBBS) – HO CAMPUS
  • Bachelor of Science Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (BMB)
Entry Requirements:

All Core Subjects listed in ‘a’ above in addition to the following electives:

i. Science Students: Chemistry, Biology, and Physics or Elective Mathematics

ii. Agricutural Science Students: Chemistry, Animal Husbandry/General Agric,  and Physics or Elective Mathematics

SCHOOL OF MEDICINE (SOM) – HO CAMPUS
  • Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) (6 years)
  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery (6 years)
  • Bachelor of Physician Assistantship (Clinical) (4 years)
  • Doctor of Psychology (D.Psyc) (6 years)
Entry Requirements:

i. All Core Subjects listed in ‘a’ above in addition to the following electives: Chemistry, Biology 
   and Physics or Elective Mathematics

ii. Doctor of Psychology (Clinical, Counselling, Neuropsychology Options)
   All Core Subjects listed in ‘A’ above in addition to Credit Passes in any three (3) Elective 
   Subjects. However, Neuropsychology applicants must have Credits in General Science
   Electives.

Doctor of Psychology (Top-Up)

  • An application who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Second-Class Upper Division)
         or equivalent, may be considered for admission into Level 500.
  • An applicant who holds a Bachelor’s degree in other health or related fields may be
          considered for admission into Level 300
  • Applicants who hold a Diploma in Psychology or other health related programmes may be
          admitted to Level 200

NB: All shortlisted applicants shall be required to pass entrance examinations and a selection interview.

SCHOOL OF NURSING AND MIDWIFERY (SONAM) – HO CAMPUS
  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Bachelor of Midwifery
  • Bachelor of Public Health Nursing
  • Bachelor of Health Services Administration
Entry Requirements:

i. All Core Subjects 
    listed in ‘a’ above in addition to any three (3) electives in the following programmes: General
    Science, General Arts and Home Economics.
   Detailed subject areas include: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Elective Mathematics, Economics, 
   Geography, Government, History, Christian Religious Studies or Islamic Religious Studies,
   Literature-in-English, French, Ghanaian Language, General Agriculture, Food and Nutrition, General
   Knowledge in Arts, Management in Living, Information communication and Technology, and
   Health Education.

ii    Bachelor of Health Services Administration
All Core Subjects listed in ‘a’ above in addition to any three (3) electives in the following programmes: General Sciences, Business, General Arts, Home Economics, Visual Arts and Agricultural Science

Diploma Entry
An applicant who holds a Diploma from an accredited institution may be considered for admission into level 200 or 300 depending on the areas of study, content of the programme studied and grade acquired

Mature Applicants 
An applicant who is at least 25 years of age and have passed an entrance examination and/or interview may be considered for admission

NB: All shortlisted applicants may be required to pass a selection interview.

SCHOOL OF PHARMACY (SOP) – HO CAMPUS
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm D) – 6 years
Entry Requirements:

i. All Core Subjects listed in ‘a’ above in addition to (3) credits in the following Elective Subjects: Chemistry, Biology, Physics or Elective Mathematics.

ii. Candidates who apply must have General Certificate of Education (O-Level) in five (5) subjects, including English and Mathematics, in addition to Chemistry, Physics and Biology at the A-Level

iii. Mature applicants must have obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dispensing Technology/related courses or its equivalent from an accredited institution with at least three (3) years relevant working experience.

                                                                                              OR

Applicant must have attained the age of 25 at the time of submitting the application forms and must have five (5) credits at A-level, including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

NB: All shortlisted applicants shall be required to pass entrance examinations and a selection interview.

F. N. BINKA SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH (FNBSPH) – HOHOE CAMPUS

Bachelor of Public Health (BPH) with the following options:

Entry Requirements:

i. All Core Subjects listed in ‘a’ above in addition to any three (3) of the following: Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

             For Non Science students, the following electives are required:

ii. Disease Control: General Agriculture, Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture.

iii. Nutrition: General Agriculture, Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, Management in Living, Food and Nutrition.

iv. Health Information: Elective Mathematics and Elective ICT, Economics, Geography, General Agriculture, Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture.

v. Health Promotion: Government, Literature in English, Economics, History, French, Geography, General Agriculture, Crop & Soil Science, Animal Husbandry, Horticulture, Management in Living, General Knowledge in Art, Food and Nutrition.

SCHOOL OF SPORTS AND EXERCISE MEDICINE (REGULAR) – HO CAMPUS
  • Bachelor of Sports and Exercise Medical Sciences
Entry Requirements:

All Core Subjects listed in “a” above in addition to three credits (A1-C6/A-D) in Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Elective Mathematics.

GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENT (GRADUATE STUDIES)


It is announced for the information of prospective applicants and the general public that
applications for Graduate Studies for the 2024/2025 Academic Year of the University of Health
and Allied Sciences is opened.
General Information for all applicants prior to completing the application form:

Both Ghanaian and International applicants are eligible to apply.

Applicants may be required to pass an entrance interview

Applicants shall provide details of an academic referee and a professional referee.

Some programmes may require relevant working experience of 3 years or more

Prior to putting in an application, applicants are advised to visit the university website to
identify and make preliminary contacts with prospective thesis supervisors.

Applicant may be required to write an entrance examination.

Entry Requirements

An M.Phil, MPH, Master’s degree in Medical/Health Sciences, or equivalent degrees in
related fields. from an accredited institution.
ii. Master of Philosophy (Applied Epidemiology) (2 years Regular)
The programme consists of a combination of didactic lectures and field placement activities.
Entry Requirements

A good first degree with a minimum FCGPA of 2.5 or equivalent in a relevant
health/health-related field.
iii) Master of Public Health (1 Year)

i) Doctor of Philosophy (Medical Laboratory Sciences) – (4 Years Full-Time, Regular)
Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree (with research) in Medical Laboratory Sciences or an equivalent
Postgraduate Medical Laboratory Sciences qualification.

Applicants shall submit names of two potential supervisors.
ii) Master of Philosophy (Medical Laboratory Sciences) – Regular
Entry Requirements

A first degree with a minimum FCGPA of 2.5 or equivalent in Medical Laboratory
Science/Technology and other Biomedical Science programmes (e.g., BSc. Biochemistry,
BSc. Biological Science, BSc. Animal Biology/Zoology, BSc. Human Biology, etc.) from
any accredited university.
3) SCHOOL OF BASIC AND BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES (SAHS) – HO CAMPUS
i) Doctor of Philosophy (Biomedical Science)

4 years full-time or

6 years part-time
Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree in Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences and any
other Health related degrees.
ii) Master of Philosophy (Biomedical Science) – 2 Years
Entry Requirements

Afirst degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division or equivalent in Biomedical
Sciences, Microbiology, Biological Sciences or any other Health related degrees.
iii) Master of Science (Biomedical Science)
Entry Requirement

A first degree with a minimum Second-Class Lower division or equivalent in Biomedical
Sciences, Microbiology, Biological Sciences or any other Health related degrees.
4) SCHOOL OF NURSING & MIDWIFERY (SONAM) – HO CAMPUS
i) Master of Philosophy (Nursing Studies) – 2 Years
Entry Requirements

A first degree in Nursing, Midwifery or Public Health Nursing with a minimum of secondclass lower division or equivalent.

Applicants should have practiced for at least two years post-qualification and must be in
good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
ii) Master of Philosophy (Midwifery) – 2 Years
Entry Requirements

A first degree in Midwifery with a minimum of second-class lower division or equivalent.

Applicants should have practiced for at least two years post-qualification and must be in
good standing with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.
5) SCHOOL OF PHARMACY
i) Doctor of Philosophy (Pharmacology)
Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree (with research) or its equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry,
Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Allied
Health Sciences or any other relevant field of study.
ii) Master of Philosophy (Pharmacology)
Entry Requirements

A first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division or equivalent in
Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology,
Toxicology, Pharmacy (BPharm/PharmD), Nursing, Medicine, Optometry, Physician
Assistantship or relevant field.
iii) Doctor of Philosophy (Toxicology)
Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree (with research) or its equivalent in Pharmacology, Biochemistry,
Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, Toxicology,
Pharmacy, Nursing, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Allied Health Sciences or relevant
field of study.
iv) Master of Philosophy (Toxicology)
Entry Requirements

A first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division or equivalent in
Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental
Science, Molecular and Cell Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing, Allied
Health Sciences, Chemistry or relevant field of study.
v) Doctor of Philosophy (Pharmacognosy)
Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree (with research) or its equivalent in a relevant science programme
(including, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Herbal Medicine, Pure or Applied Chemistry,
Biochemistry, Life and Biomedical Sciences) or related discipline.

Applicants with professional postgraduate certificate (membership and fellowship) in a
recognized health profession may also be considered.
vi) Master of Philosophy (Pharmacognosy)

A first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division or equivalent in Pharmacy,
Herbal Medicine, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Pure or Applied Chemistry,
Pharmaceutical Sciences and related fields or equivalent.
vii) Doctor of Philosophy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Entry Requirements

A Master’s degree (with research) or its equivalent in pure or applied chemistry,
biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences, life and
biomedical sciences or any other related discipline.

Applicants with professional postgraduate certificates (membership and/or fellowship) in
a recognized health profession may also be considered.
viii) Master of Philosophy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Entry Requirements

A first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division or equivalent in pure or
applied chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy, pharmaceutical
sciences, life and biomedical sciences) from an accredited institution.
ix) Master of Science (Pharmaceutical Chemistry)
Entry Requirements

A first degree with a minimum of Second-Class Lower division or equivalent or equivalent
in pure or applied chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmacy,
pharmaceutical sciences, life, and biomedical sciences or a related science programme.

A candidate with a good first degree in a relevant science programme and a minimum of
three years working experience in a pharmaceutical industry would be eligible.
